Tuscany heads to the elections, 'L'Altra Toscana': "Decoy lists, not civic ones. True civic spirit is free from political parties."

Florence, July 20, 2025 – The Tuscan regional elections are approaching, and the topic of civic lists is a hot topic these days.
"Some," reads a statement from L'Altra Toscana , the movement launched by the mayor of Viareggio , Giorgio Del Ghingaro , "propose recycling well-known faces from the center-left and center-right under false civic guises, in the hope of reviving a frayed consensus. But who are they trying to kid? We at L'Altra Toscana state clearly: not all lists that call themselves "civic" are truly so. Too often we witness the emergence of committees or acronyms that proclaim themselves civic, but which are in fact direct expressions of the parties, serving their strategies, incubated in the corridors of power. They call them civic, but they are decoys: they serve to distract, to confuse, to "clean up" worn-out faces and symbols. They are not alternatives to the parties: they are their disguised crutch."
"True civic spirit," the statement continues, "the spirit that L'Altra Toscana promotes with consistency and transparency, comes from the local communities, not from secretariats. It is an autonomous, participatory, horizontal civic spirit that stems from the concrete needs of communities, not from tactical games between former mayors, executives, and ringleaders. It is a civic spirit that has no masters, that competes with power, not seeks a seat at the table. If political parties have lost credibility, it will not be with fake civic lists that they will regain it. No confidence is fought with a new civic pact between free citizens, not with electoral "makeover operations." L'Altra Toscana fights for a more just, transparent, sober, and supportive Region. Without sponsors or patrons. Ours is a truly civic and free project: open, participatory, built from the bottom up. Those seeking "remote-controlled civic spirit" can stay in their palaces. Tuscany needs fresh air, not old, cosmetic strategies."
